How City Rivals works

Six steps and you know everything.
  1. Roll and move. Two dice move you around 38 spaces. Passing Start pays $200; landing exactly on it pays $300. A double lets you go again — three in a row sends you to Prison.
  2. Claim districts. Land on an unowned district to buy it at the listed price. Land on someone else's and you pay rent. Select any tile to read its rent card first.
  3. Complete a country, then build. You cannot build until you own every district in one country. Once you do, the house rule "Double rent on completed set" doubles its rent straight away — it is on unless your host turns it off, and the deed card always shows the rate actually in force.
  4. Four houses, then a hotel. Each house raises rent sharply — the jump from two to three is the biggest in the game. Four houses can be replaced by a hotel.
  5. Trade for what you are missing. Nobody completes a set by luck alone. Open Trades, pick a rival, and put districts, cash and release cards on the table.
  6. Run out of cash and you fold. Sell buildings and mortgage districts to cover a debt. If you cannot, you are out and your portfolio goes to whoever you owed.

You are about to give up this match. Confirming does all of this at once:

  • It is permanent for this match. Nothing undoes it and you cannot rejoin as an active player.
  • You leave the turn order. Play skips your seat from here on, and you cannot bid in auctions.
  • Your portfolio is settled by the rules. Districts, cash and buildings go to whoever you owe money to, or back to the bank if you owe nobody.
  • Your open offers are voided. Every trade still waiting on an answer is cancelled and the other player is told why. Settled trades stand.
  • You may stay and watch, or leave. Spectating keeps the board, the feed and the chat. Leaving takes you home.
  • Debts, mortgages and any live auction are closed out too. Whatever you owe is paid out of what you hold and the rest is written off; mortgaged districts change hands still mortgaged; and an auction you were bidding in carries on without you.
